Toy Reviews and Toy Safety Education

  1. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
Offers several lists that one can subscribe to for safety alerts on products that are deemed to be unsafe. I have been subscribed to what they designate as the 'recalls" list for some time and I must say I was shocked at the number and types of products being recalled.
Here are some of the recalls from December, 2007 to give you an idea of the variety. Folks, this is a no-brainer. Subscribe and keep your kids safe!!
  2. Dr. Toy
Dr. Toy's Guide offers information on children's products and toy reviews.
This site is sponsored by The Institute for Childhood Resources.
  3. HealthyToys.org
Consumer Action Guide to Toxic Chemicals in Toys.
Maintains a database of what they consider to be 'Best' and 'Worst' toys.
  4. Oppenheim Toy Portfolio
Reviews, good and bad, of the newest toys as well as recommendations.
  5. ToyInfo.org
This site is sponsored by the Toy Industry Association which claims that they are very concerned about toy safety.
Although the site does contain good information, IMHO they are an "hour late and a dollar short". If they are so concerned, why are we getting so many recalls when the 'bad' toys shouldn't have reached the marketplace to begin with!
  6. Washington Toxics Coalition
Advocacy organization working to eliminate toxic chemicals in toys.
